Images of Kali & other Hindu divinities

for Bharati Mukherjee, Jasmine

In Hindu mythology Kali is the consort of Lord Shiva (a.k.a. Kala). She is also an aspect of the supreme goddess Parvati or Durga.

Kali is often represented standing on a prostrate male figure, the demon Raktajava.

As with many figures of Hindu divinity, Kali can represent diverse powers or values, in her case death, change, time, darkness, or shakti (energy or empowerment).
